An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
New plan for post 11 September 2001 incident:
Secretary
of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, recently put forward plan,
named the "1-4-2-1 Defence Strategy".
(1) Develop a war plan to defend the United States,
(4) Maintain forces capable of deterring aggression and
coercion in four critical regions, Europe. Northeast Asia,
Southwest Asia, the Middle East.
(2) Maintain a capability to combat aggression in two
of these regions simultaneously and be able to win decisively.
(1) Maintain a policy to enforce a regime change and occupation
of any one country within the regions indicated, who were
proven to have contravened a non-aggression policy.
One leading American news media outlet said, "At
a time when American military forces are already stretched
to their limits, the proposed new strategy goes far beyond
preparing for reactive contingencies, and reads like a
plan for initiating fights in new parts of the world".
Comment:
This may not be the exact wording of the plan put forward
by Secretary Rumsfeld, and I apologize up front for any
errors made as I obviously have not seen a copy of the
proposal and have to obtain my information from third
party media sources.
I put forward a similar plan of my own, "A vision
for a new United Nations", which was published in
the January
2004 edition of "View from America".
Perhaps one of Secretary Rumsfeld’s staff members
read the article, as surprisingly many of the ideas that
I incorporated in the January 2004 issue appear to have
found their way into his plan.
