Bill Sykes' Newsletter
from America.
(April 2005)
An ex-Brit gives his views - (without
fear or favor) - of the American Scene
Thought for today:
History has indicated that, "those who
live by the sword eventually perish by the sword",
or perhaps in our particular case can we say that, "nations
of this world who operate by using violence, including
barbaric methods of torture, will eventually perish by
the same or similar means". Or to use the American
vernacular, "what goes around - comes around".
This is not a biblical prophesy, as of course I am
not a believer - but - the Old Testament cities of Sodom
and Gomorrah, located south of the Dead Sea immediately
come to mind, and folklore has it that they were both
destroyed by fire and brimstone because of the wickedness
of their inhabitants.
I would suggest that a more believable scenario would
be that the surrounding area was either destroyed by
a very large earthquake or hit by a huge asteroid hurtling
from outer space and landing in that area. As you are
noted believer Mr. President, perhaps you should take
heed of these so called biblical happenings and be on
your best behaviour as perhaps the terrible events of
September eleventh, 2001 were not only a wake up call
but a warning of disastrous things yet to come.
Give a little - take a lot agenda.
The Middle East situation has not been improved
by the latest land grab by the Israelis who are planning
to build a further 3,500 homes for Israeli settlers in
the West Bank town of Maale Adumium, and also expand
existing settlements in the northern West Bank and other
locations.
No wonder the Palestinian Arabs claim that the Israel
expansion plans are aimed at sabotaging any efforts to
get the peace plan back on track. Under the so-called
peace plan, (known as the road map), Israel pledged to
freeze the growth of settlements that had been built
on Arab land which Israel had occupied since 1967. Then
there is the question of the building and extension of
the,”Segregation Wall”, which has been a
bone of contention since its inception as it further
divides Arab people from entering their towns in the
West Bank.
So, President Bush, (and Prime Minister Blair), what
has become of your so called vision of a two-state Israeli/Arab
country and how can there be peace whilst Israel continues
to expand settlement on a daily basis, and continues
to build and expand the segregation wall, and what is
more important Mr. President what do you intend to do
about the situation in order to bring peace to this very
volatile region of the Middle East.
