An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear or favor)---of the American Scene

Apparently even Royal Ascot has been tainted by acts of crude behaviour.
Don’t get me wrong ladies, I understand that it’s the fashion to be unfashionable and every young lady wants to be seen and noticed and even more so at Royal Ascot.
The following article from one of the British newspapers, dated Saturday 21st of June 2003, had the headline "Whatever happened to Ladies' Day", and goes on to describe a somewhat unsavoury display by a couple of twenty-something blondes who popped up out of the sun roof of a limousine with glasses of champagne in hand and proceeded to bare their breasts to a gaggle of men dressed in fashionably grey suits.

What on earth has Royal Ascot come to when the national headlines pay more attention to drunken girls stripping to the waist, drugs in the toilets, and acts that could only be described as unbridled lechery instead of concentrating upon the sport of kings.

Perhaps its because that is the kind of news their readers want and the objective of the national newspapers is to sell news papers.
The article goes on to suggest that the once elegant event - one of the highlights of the British social calendar - has now turned into a display of disgraceful acts of attention seeking publicity hunters who apparently believe that the they were not there to watch the races but to get drunk and make fools of themselves. Is nothing sacred, or has it always been this way?
