An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
A vision of a new United Nations:
Please remember that this is a very bare bones
narrative and must be considered as such. Perhaps one
day I may even consider to undertake the task of expanding,
clarifying, and qualifying, the whys and wherefores of
the, ifs, buts and the maybes that are sure to arise,
accompanied by many arguments as to why the suggestions
made wouldn’t, couldn’t, and shouldn’t
work.
This suggestion envisages a set up of a "new"
United Nations but with extended authority and infinite
power in an effort to try to bring peace through strength
to this world. Maybe a "new" United Nations
charter could be based upon the current government structure
as practiced in the United States, with the exception
that instead of having three governing bodies, 1) Legislative
Branch, (Law making), 2) Executive Branch, (Law enforcing),
3) Judicial Branch, (Law interpreting), there would be
two more branches added, 4) Administrative Branch, (Financial
accounting), 5) Military Branch, (Internal and external
protection responsibilities).
For want of a better nomenclature, I’ve named these
five world governing bodies as follows:
1) "International Confederation of Nations",
2) "Executive Branch",
3) "Judicial Branch",
4) "Administration Branch",
5) "Military Branch".
As you can see there is nothing new in that with the exception
of the addition of items 4 and 5.
Ok, Ok, tell me it won’t work, and that I’m
being irrational in coming up with this nonsensical suggestion,
which is fraught with pitfalls and totally devoid of an
acceptable and reasonable thought process. Tell me that
the suggestion smacks of imperialism, colonialism and
every other ‘ism that one can think of, and of course
I would be forced to agree with you in some respects -
but surely someone has to come up with a viable idea of
preventing the destruction of the world and its people.
I’m suggesting a type of world government with world
laws and a world peace-keeping force. The current political
situation, as it now stands, with an impotent and weak
United Nations, and a limited NATO force, is just not
workable and drastic steps have to be taken if we are
to survive. Of course there will be objections to any
suggestion, especially such a radical suggestion as the
one being offered, which in all honesty has no chance
what-so-ever, (in its current form), of being successfully
accepted and applied.
