An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Saved by the Queen
I
see that the British Monarchy are again in hot water because
of accusations against Princess Diana’s butler,
(and apparent close confidant), Mr. Paul Burrell, and
Her Majesty’s rather late breaking comments which
got Mr. Burrell off the hook from an accusation, wrongly
as it turned out, of stealing some of Princess Diana’s
personal effects after her tragic death on the 31st of
August 1997 in an automobile accident in Paris, France.
Mr.
Burrell was acquitted of the accusation, when her Majesty
the Queen made a statement that Mr. Burrell had informed
her in a conversation some five years previously, (shortly
after the death of the Princess), of his intention to
place the Princess’s property under his care and
protection for security reasons, until a decision was
made by the Palace as to whom the property should be released
to.
Reports
say that some of the London tabloids have suggested that
ulterior motives were possibly involved in what they,
the newspapers, considered to be a controversial decision
by Her Majesty the Queen to protect certain private letters
and documents from becoming public.
In my opinion, the decision by the Queen was right and
proper and is final and irrevocable---and as this qualifies
as a private and personal matter, and Mr. Burrell has
been exonerated from any wrong doing, it is nobody else’s
business. Her Majesty does not deserve such crass criticism.
