Mainland China again threatens Taiwan:
In previous 2002 news letters I wrote the following
article: Mr Bush, I beg of you, please refrain from criticizing
mainland China's internal policies and stop repeating
the underlying threat, "That if mainland China attacks
Taiwan, we the United States will intervene with the
provision of full military support to Taiwan".
As I said previously Mr. President, mainland China may take you at your word
and view the threat seriously.
Mainland China is a force to be reckoned with and we cannot afford at this
juncture to underestimate their military potential.
I also said at that time: When America reaches the saturation
point of full engagement and displacement of their military
forces overseas, do you think that mainland China may
consider it an opportune time to undergo the re-unification
of Taiwan?
Perhaps that time has come for in a news item datelined Beijing, Tuesday the
18 th of November 2003 it was reported that the strongest statement yet made
by mainland China in years, threatened, "That the use of force may become
unavoidable if Taiwan pursues independence".
If President Bush repeats his
threats to support Taiwan it may be the biggest foreign policy blunder of his
career as Mainland China has unlimited manpower resources and a conflict between
the United States and China could have far reaching consequences resulting
in the start of World War Three.
My wife and I travelled to China a number of years
ago and visited the major cities of Shanghai, Beijing,
Xi'an, (The home of the famous Terra Cotta warriors),
and also some of the other lesser known cities - one of these days I will
give you a more expanded description of the places we
visited. The population of China is enormous - I would
estimate the numbers to be bordering upon 1.50 billion
people - and during our visit I made a rough order of
magnitude assessment of their future economic impact
on the world and came to the conclusion that by the year
2017, give or take a few years, China would become one
of the leading economic powers of this world, and that
they would also without a shadow of doubt attempt to
regain control of Taiwan which is of paramount importance
in their trade expansion goals. Late breaking news flash: Dateline Taipei, Thursday
27 th November 2003.
Defying mainland China's
threat of war if Taiwan declares independence, Taiwanese
lawmakers today gave their President power to call a
"defensive" independence
referendum. The mainland Chinese Foreign Ministry in
Beijing, refrained from making an immediate comment.
