Bill Sykes' Newsletter
from America.
(December 2004)
An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Readers
letters (Part Two):
John writes from Canada.
I find it difficult to make comments on your
latest newsletter as I agree with so much of the things
that you write about, which reminds me of a comment
by Oscar Wilde, "If everybody agree with me,
perhaps it’s me that’s wrong".
I note your comment that America is concerned, (I believe that I said that
perhaps America should be concerned), that Russia is doing away with democracy
and is again becoming a totalitarian State. (Yes---Something like that).
Why should America be worrying about Russia returning to a totalitarian state
when they themselves are fast becoming a totalitarian state under the current
Bush administration with its so-called actions in the war against terrorism,
by suspending many of the civil rights that Americans have enjoyed and been so
proud to have for these many years?
With respect to your observations regarding American
health care costs and American Social Security pensions
- the American public are not the only ones being ripped
off by their administrators - in fact it would appear to be a common thing
in most countries these days.
Here in Canada the members of Parliament have a pension scheme that would be
illegal if carried out by any civilian organisation.
It really is time that the general public got angry at the feeding at the trough
of inequity which is financed by the taxation of the general public and insisted
that all public servants get the same treatment from the same sources as the
general public gets their health care and pensions from.
With respect to your
comments about the current state of gun laws in America---they are ridiculous.
It is time that the loopholes contained in the second amendment were amended
and brought up to date and in line with current conditions and worded in modern
English so that there are no loopholes left to be exploited. The amazing thing
is that Americans are quite happy to have several thousand people killed by
firearms yearly so that they can purchase the weapon
of their choice.
My comment:
John, Thanks for your observations - what can I say,
the world and its inhabitants are far from being perfect
and some of course are more imperfect than others and
they are the ones that usually exploit the hard working
people of this planet who are trying their best to
establish a reasonable and just way of life for the
exploited masses of the people of this world.
With respect to your comments upon the current Russian situation - see the
next page.
