Bill Sykes' Newsletter from America.
(February 2002)
An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Last word.
The usual disclaimer.
Much of the information gathered for this news letter is
gleaned from American and international media sources, (including
the Internet), and as such is quoted as accurately as possible.
I try to obtain confirmation on each subject from several
outlets, so the text is a mixture of composite news items
and personal comment and therefore the reader must make
his/her judgment as to the reliability and degree of accuracy
of the subjects discussed.
Thought for today.
As I have labored over these newsletters each month for
a period of six months, I have tried to the best of my ability
to avoid over zealous critique of persons, governments,
heads of state and the countries to which they belong.
I have tried to report the news as seen by the World Press
and Television with accuracy, respect, and honesty.
In researching items for possible inclusion in the newsletters
I assess them for what I call their believability factor,
which in many cases appears to works out at around 50%.
In order to give the reader the opportunity to make up his/her
mind as to the validity of the items that I include I have
used an approximate 70%/30% believability ratio.
I hope that you have found these news letters to be informative
and the subjects chosen carefully in order provoke interest
and stimulate debate whilst still maintaining a degree of
journalistic integrity that is devoid of any suspicion of
personal rancor or animosity.
I sincerely hope that I have achieved my objectives.
If you have any inputs, I would be pleased to receive them.
