An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Last word:
I have just read a report that indicates that
Great Britain, as of May 2004, is opening its borders
to 70 million people from the former Eastern European
Communist block countries, who are about to join the EU,
and giving the people of those countries the opportunity
to enter Britain as guest workers.
British authorities expect that at least 100,000 Gypsies
from the Czech Republic alone will be heading to Britain
at an anticipated rate of around a thousand a month, to
participate in the big welfare giveaway programs. Apparently
the new arrivals will receive the same access to housing,
health, education and pension benefits as Britons.
Poland, Hungary and Slovakia have a combined Gypsy population
of over 1.7 million people. I don’t see, or expect
to see, any of the other large European Union countries
opening their doors to these so called asylum seekers
who are travelling by the coach load through those countries
enroute to the land of milk and honey. France and Germany
having given a categorical "no way".
In my humble opinion, this is sheer lunacy on the part
of the British Government in creating a potential situation
of internal industrial strife, which could bring with
it phenomenal associated costs brought about by massive
disruptions of labour and financial markets. This of course
will be extremely detrimental to Britain and its people.
Even Mr. Blair can see the pitfalls of this action and
has apparently protested to the Czech Prime Minister,
Vladimir Spidla.
The Home Office apparently has got into the act and are
trying to downplay the advantages of life in the British
Welfare Society by radio broadcasts and other media sources
in order to try and dissuade the claimants of the asylum
seeking Roma community from entering the UK, with the
message that unfounded asylum seekers will be returned
to their country of origin.
Unfortunately Britain has made its bed by trying to entice
low paid labour to its shores, and now must suffer the
consequences. I would think that the time has come for
Britain to close its borders to these apparent phoney
asylum seekers.
What are the views of the British public on the subject
of this dreadful encroachment upon your privileges?
I would love to hear from UK readers, (and any American
readers), who wish to comment on the situation.
