An ex-Brit gives his views - (without
fear or favor) - of the American Scene
Four
more years of this President!!!
George W. Bush was inaugurated
as President of the United States for a second four-year
term in office today Thursday the 20th of January
2005. It was a very cold and bleak day in Washington
- if I discount the weather - the bleak day that I’m
referring to is for the people of the United States
who will have to bear the burden of so many uninformed
and inaccurate decisions that have been made by this
President during his first term in office.
In my opinion
this so-called leader has made so many bad foreign
policy decisions based upon misinformation that history
books will look back in retrospect and show how his
one-man unilateral decisions have affected not only
the people of America, but also the people of the world
at large.
Unless there are enormous changes in American foreign
policy and also better fiscal discipline in order to
reduce the inordinate deficit spending of US dollars
to finance this President’s wars of fantasy, we
the people will have a long and sustained struggle to
regain the world respect that we have lost under this
President.
Getting back to the inordinate spending of
the once almighty dollar, the extravaganza of the inauguration
is said to have cost the people of this nation, (directly
or indirectly), an estimated figure as high as fifty
million dollars, and when one considers that this country
is rapidly becoming once again the worlds largest debtor
nation this is a grossly irresponsible action which we
the people could well have done without.
This is another
display of irresponsible financial mis-management, which
could lead to a bleak monetary future for the people
of the United States, which will require many years of
responsible action in order to elevate the United States
financial status back to a previous degree of supremacy in the world of high
finance. By the way, as a matter of interest, could you guess where a majority
of the souvenirs of the inauguration where manufactured - if you said
America you would be totally incorrect - the majority of inauguration souvenirs
were manufactured of course in China!
The Presidential inaugural speech, interspersed a number
of times with pious religious comments, (whatever happened
to the constitutional principle of separation of Church
and State), promised that America would be instrumental
in ending worldwide tyranny and would uphold Liberty
and Freedom throughout the world as a number one priority.
His caustic belligerent message rang out, "You
are either with us, or against us, and if you are against
us we will certainly do something about it."
(Or words to that effect). It sounded to me very much like his oft-touted message
to the insurgents in Iraq, "Bring it on". These are harsh words that he and
the people of America may live to regret, or unfortunately
may die in the process.
In one part of his speech, (and I’m not quoting
him verbatim), he stated that America will be ready to
assist the people of any country who wish to overthrow
tyranny and embrace democracy, but he added a proviso
that America will not make deals with countries run by
dictators. He obviously forgot to mention of course the
fact that we already deal with countries such as China,
Pakistan, Korea, etc.
Comment:
One thing that I did notice is that President Bush must
have been practicing the educated art of oratory in
order to expand his horizons, for he has progressed
from his three or four word sentences followed by the usual one minute’s
silence, (presumably to get his mind in gear to try to figure out what he is
going to say next), to a situation where he can now link together five, six,
or even more words before entering into a state of mental hibernation.
This is an obvious exaggeration on my part of course—but you get the message.
