An ex-Brit gives his views - (without
fear or favor) - of the American Scene
What
are "they" up to!!
In recent weeks the American administration,
(namely, one would assume, to be the Pentagon or perhaps
even the Central Intelligence Agency, or whom-so-ever),
have had the audacity to float a leaked suggestion
that perhaps the United States should join Israel in
a pre-emptive strike against suspected Iranian
nuclear weapon manufacturing plant capabilities.
Currently
America does not have the military manpower to start
another conflict in the Middle East, or for that matter
anywhere else in the world. As I have said previously,
North Korea has not assembled a one and a half million
fully equipped army for show purposes and mainland China
has not assembled thousands of missile silos pointing
across the straights of Formosa towards Taiwan if they
don’t intend to use them at sometime in the very
near future.
So what would you intend to do then Mr. President,
considering the United States Armed Forces are so overstretched
at this time to the point that they have been forced
to institute what has been named "a back-door
draft" and
have recalled some officers who served out their military contract several
years ago by utilizing the fine print in their enlistment
papers. The fine print apparently states that when an
officer has completed his/her service they have to place
on record a written request at the date of their decommissioning to relinquish
his/her rank. Apparently if that paperwork is not fully completed then that
individual can be recalled for further service in times
of need on an exigency basis and sent to Iraq or whatever
place his/her services may be required.
At the same time
the military have instituted "a stop
loss" method
of retaining troops who have served their reserve contract to the full, and
the military authorities are extending their tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan
for several months.
Trust the American politicians to find loopholes in
order to serve their own militaristic purposes, (or skins),
and try to get themselves out of the terrible mess that
they the politicians got the American people into in
the first place.
As the poem by Lawrence Vaincourt, (published in the December
2004 issue of "View
from America") states:
In general one does not find politicians, or their offspring, in the front
lines fighting the wars that they have instituted - just the poor unfortunate
patriotic misinformed lower echelon GI’s who are sent to fight the
wars that politicians get us into in order to satisfy their greed for power,
or words to that effect.
