An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Bordering upon the macabre. (Not for the squeamish reader)
The families of over three hundred, or so, "dearly
beloved" departed souls, who were destined to be cremated
over a period of the last 15 years (the departed souls that
is), are apparently in for a huge shock.
Authorities
in the town of Noble, Georgia, (a hamlet 25 miles south
of Chattanooga), have discovered that the local crematorium
has been dispersing bodies in sheds, scattering them in
the woods, or just piling them on top of one another on
the 16 acre property adjoining the crematorium facility
instead of cremating them.
It would appear that the crematorium owner operator, (stated
to be 28-year-old Ray Brent Marsh), found that it was cheaper/easier
to disperse or stack the bodies on the property than cremate
them.
Mr. Marsh, when asked why the bodies had not been cremated
has been quoted as saying that the incinerator was not working.
Twenty
five to thirty funeral homes, located in Georgia, Tennessee
and Alabama, are stated to have used the crematorium facilities.
You may ask why this macabre incident was not discovered
earlier, and perhaps be given the reason that there are
729 crematoriums in the area and apparently only two inspectors
in Georgia to deal with them.
It has been reported that the authorities suspect that
the urns provided by the crematorium operator contained
wood chip ashes. It would appear that sooner or later someone
would have to say that the dearly departed were "chips
off the old block". !!!
Mr. Marsh has been charged with a number of counts of theft
by deception, (which is classified as a felony), for taking
payments for cremations that he didn't perform.
OK, you really didn't need to know about all of this, especially
if you have arranged for similar disposition of your own
remains, and especially if you live in Noble, Georgia.
