An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Where has all the money gone?
Whilst on the subject of disappearing funds, it would seem
that the time has come for the White House to be held accountable
for the vast sums of money that have been expended upon
fighting worldwide terrorism, and more so, to give an accountability
of the financial give away program and the ever growing
list of handouts being made by Mr. Bush to foreign entities.
There
seems to be a never ending line of foreign dignitaries visiting
the White House with pleas, or in some cases demands, for
monetary funds. The latest visitor being Prime Minister
Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan who requested the forgiveness
of $3.5B of financial debt in return for the loyal support
given by Pakistan to America's incursion into Afghanistan.
Wonder what Mr. Jerry Adams received, if anything, for
his proposed support of the Irish peace initiatives?
The new head of the Afghanistan Interim Government, Mr.
Hamid Karzai, quickly appeared upon the scene with a request
for $10B in order to rebuild his war torn country. I thought
that a considerable amount of damage done to his country
over the last twenty plus years came from the infighting
of the feudal war lords and the ten year war with the Russian
invasion forces. !!!
Mr.
Karzai was followed by Mr. Sharon of Israel, wonder what
financial rewards he had in mind with respect to Israel
allowing the possible establishment of a future Palestinian
State. The Israeli Government has received considerable
funds and military equipment from the United States for
many years since their inception in 1948, and like the proverbial
Oliver Twist they always seem to want more.
I wonder who will be next to arrive on these shores to
visit the White House seeking a monetary hand out, I'm sure
that there are many other contenders out there wishing to
get their hands on the almighty dollar.
As I have said previously, and now reiterate, "Charity
begins at home" and it is my opinion that the United
States should use some of the vast amounts of money which
is currently being given away to foreign entities, to the
provision of reasonable healthcare and other amenities for
many of its lower income citizens.
