An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Volunteers needed.
The Green Berets are recruiting a "Few Good Men",
(to use a phrase from the American Marines recruiting posters),
in fact they currently need four hundred good men as their
lines are apparently being stretched very thin with all
the demands being put upon them.
So, if you fancy travel to exciting places like Afghanistan,
the jungles of the Philippines, and other scenic places,
you are just the people they are looking for.
The snag of course is that you must be an American national
and speak English. One would have thought in this day and
age that fluency in the Arabic language would more than
qualify prospective recruits.
New recruits have in the past been chosen from within the
American Armed Forces, but under the new rules, recruits
can now enlist directly into the Green Berets under a five
year program which ensures a place in a rigorous two year
training program.
The down side is that any new recruit who does not meet
the grade, which includes a paratroop qualification, will
automatically be reassigned to an Army unit.
