Bill Sykes' Newsletter
from America.
(March 2003)
An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Defense of the United States.
The question that keeps constantly coming into my mind
is, "Who is defending the United States?"
We
appear to have troops stationed in every corner of the
world, with the latest contingent of up to 3000 American
troops currently shipping out for deployment in the Philippines
to fight Muslim extremists in the southern part of the
country.
I hate to say this, but the deployment of large numbers
of American troops in foreign lands certainly keeps the
unemployment figures down.
Does anyone remember the World War One slogan, "A
land fit for heroes to live in?"
When Tommy came marching home after the armistice was
signed on the Eleventh of November 1918, there were no
jobs available and many of them went on the dole. I certainly
would not like to see that happen here. Any person who
puts his /her life on the line for his/her country deserves
the greatest respect, gratitude, and a return to a "land
fit for heroes to live in".
