Bill Sykes' Newsletter
from America.
(March 2003)
An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Last word.
The use by the United States of Economic pressure against
undeveloped third world countries and the monetary handouts
that usually accompany such pressure in order to keep
them in line and buy votes to support the United States
position in the United Nations, is tantamount to monetary
blackmail. This is a more grievous situation when considering
the American States current financial problems.
Most
of the 51 States are currently suffering financial hardship
with huge deficits and are having to cut back on social
services, such as education and health care. To keep their
head above water the States are requesting, but to my
knowledge have not received financial aid from their own
Government.
The American economy is currently in a shambles and heading
for a potential economic meltdown. The threat of war is
on every ones mind, what else could it be with the continuous
daily bombardment by TV and Mr. Bush’s fixation
with a regime change in Iraq. The removal of Saddam Hussein,
continues to occupy his daily TV messages aimed at convincing
the American people that a war with Iraq is in America’s
best interests.
What
is said to be in the best interests of America, cannot
be said to be in the best interests of the world at large
as the huge demonstrations throughout the world have shown.
This President maybe leading this nation into not only
a monetary depression but also a mental depression if
and when a war with Iraq commences and Johnny does not
come marching home. What a terrible thought.
Thought for today.
President
Reagan was known as "The great communicator".
Can one say that President Bush may go down in history
as the "The great dictator".
A poem comes to mind. (They appear to be a regular feature
of my news letters these days). I’m not sure that
I have the right words so please go along with me, as
I’m sure that you will get the message.
”When I was walking up the stair---I met a man who
wasn’t there,
He wasn’t there again today----I wish that man would
go away”.
