An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Expensive real estate.
The
Turkish Government has been approached on several occasions
by the Bush Administration to provide access for American
troops, and weaponry, presumably to be deployed on the
border with Iraq.
Up until now the Turkish Government have been demanding
in return, an American financial economic aid package
of around $30B, in order for them to accept American troop
deployment on Turkish soil. I am given to understand that
the Bush Administration will come up with the money, to
so say assist Turkey defend itself should Iraq attacks
them.
If the Turkish Government accepts the offer, (which apparently
has not yet been finalized), against the overwhelming
opposition of the Turkish people who fear that should
a war happen, the Kurds will form an independent Kurdish
State in northern Iraq, the Turkish Government can expect
major internal problems within their country.
