An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Backing off:
After
a recent meeting in Washington with the Premier of China,
Wen Jiabao, President Bush retracted his fighting words
and backed off his threats to provide Taiwan with total
American support if mainland China attacked and invaded
Taiwan, who were at that time talking about seeking autonomy
as a sovereign state. Since then the leader of Taiwan
has reduced his political rhetoric and now says that Taiwan
may seek unification with the Republic of China. Smart
move, seeing that the Republic of China has thousand of
missiles, located on the mainland and aimed across the
Straits of Formosa at the island of Taiwan. I would suggest
that it is better for the people of Taiwan to become a
unified part of the Republic of China than to be obliterated.
President
Bush recently put out a paper suggesting that the American
economy was strong, and a full recovery is underway which
would create 2.60 Million jobs by the end of 2004. Anyone
could see that this was a ridiculous statement, when we
are out-sourcing jobs at a tremendous pace to India, China,
Mexico, and Eastern Europe.
Seeing that we have lost 2.00 Million jobs in the last
three years during the Bush Administration’s fiscally
irresponsible duration in the White House, how can the
United States be expected to reclaim those jobs.
Within twenty-four hours, after consulting with some high-powered
financial experts who challenged his statement he quickly
rescinded his claim.
