Bill Sykes' Newsletter from America.
(March 2004)
An ex-Brit gives his views---(without
fear or favor)---of the American scene.
Preamble:
It must be pretty obvious to the discerning reader, that
as I publish each of these news letters at the beginning
of the month, a majority of the news items are from the
previous month. (In this case, news and comments are for
the month of February 2004).
I intend to commence this news letter with a rather
poignant story that comes to be from an ex-comrade in
arms, of the 1940's era, who now resides in Canada, as
I thought that it is befitting that his letter should
get pride of place.
Different subject: If the readers are not interested
in learning the rudiments of American Football, with special
reference to the recent Super Bowl which took place in
Houston, Texas, on Sunday the 1st of February 2004, then
I would suggest that although I’ve tried to make
the paragraph informative and have inserted typical tongue
in cheek British type humour, (into what most Americans
consider to be a serious and sacrosanct sporting occasion
- akin to say the Cup Final at Wembley Stadium), perhaps
you would like to you skip the, "Sex and Violence",
paragraph and go on to more important things.
