An ex-Brit gives his views - (without
fear or favor) - of the American Scene
Trying to spread
the Bush doctrine:
During his current trip to Europe President
Bush has coerced, scolded, and threatened both Syria
and Iran, and just prior to travelling to Russia for
a meeting with President Putin he once more attempted
to lay down the law according to the Bush doctrine
by suggesting that the Russian form of democracy is
not the American idea of how democracy should be instituted
(or
words to that effect).
If I were President Putin I
would take great exception to this outrageous declaration
and suggest that President Bush mind his own business
and keep his nose out of Russian affairs. This President
in previous speeches has threatened several sovereign
nations including both mainland China and North Korea,
and now he appears to be challenging Syria, Iran, and
Russia. Does the President really think that the people of the United States
wish to be involved in potential military confrontations with such heavily
militarised countries such as China, Russia, or North Korea, seeing that we
currently do not have sufficient ground forces available to subdue the Iraqi
insurgents?
This is insanity personified.
Arms deals and possible consequences:
The European Union,
(EU), recently stated that it will end the embargo on supplying weapons
to mainland China - and on the other side of the
ocean the United States has agreed to sell missiles
to Taiwan. So Mr President, can one say that what
is good for the goose is also good for the gander
- no matter wither thou shalt wander?
Dateline: Tuesday 4th January 2005, Washington
D.C.
The United States Army agreed to sell more
than 400 AGM-114M Lockheed Martin Corporation "Hellfire"
missiles to Taiwan.
Lip service is being paid to trying to stop the proliferation of nuclear
weapons but nothing is being done about stopping worldwide trafficking
in conventional weapons. This is a huge lucrative business, which creates
vast profits for the so-called civilized nations and untold deaths, devastation,
and misery for many of the people of so-called third world nations. The
time is long overdue for the world to recognise that the sale and provision
of conventional weapons is the prime cause of many of the world conflicts
and for society to outlaw and ban the sale of such weapons.
We call ourselves
civilized human beings and yet we provide the weapons and means for acts
of genocide, resulting in the killing of millions of people worldwide,
by the people that we sell the conventional arms to.
This has got to stop before the worldwide warring parties
create an unstoppable conflict which could affect and
possibly decimate the world population.
I hate to say this, but considering that by the year 2050 it has been
estimated the world population will have grown under normal circumstances
to around 15 billion people, perhaps a reduction in the numbers of the
members of the human race will have been achieved by the brutal killing
currently being carried out between warring nations, unless we the people
put a stop to this senseless killing and try to live in peace and harmony
with each other, regardless of race religion or creed.
So endeth the lesson.
