Bill Sykes' Newsletter
from America.
(March 2005)
An ex-Brit gives his views - (without
fear or favor) - of the American Scene
State
of the Union:
From my observations, I would suggest that
the current State of the Union is going from bad to
worse, but you would never think so from President
Bush’s
State of the Union address to Congress on Wednesday
the 2nd of February, 2005.
According to him, (and I would assume his advisors/speech writers), the economy
is improving and the budget deficit will be halved by the time he leaves office,
(not a chance if he continues his current give away monetary policy to foreign
nations).
He commented upon the Middle East situation giving
the usual rosy scenario that the United States has made
progress in the introduction of democracy into that region
and stated that the war in Iraq is being won, (the question
is by whom), and he also said that he has a plan to rescue
American social security, but did not give any explicit
details.
Perhaps I should remind the President, as I have done so
many times before, that charity begins at home and some
of those multi-billion dollars could be well spent in looking
after the welfare and security of the American people before
embarking upon foreign wars to oust undesirable dictators
on the pretext that their removal is vital in the interests
of American security.
