Bill Sykes' - In Retrospect
XVII.
(March 2009)
Bill
Sykes looks back in retrospect at material which has
been published in previous editions of "View from
America", in an attempt to determine whether the
subject matter written then is still applicable in
today’s world.
Article #17C.
A very brief, (somewhat lacking in detail), chart of the so-called Bailout Distribution.
Congress finally got their act together on Friday the 13th of February 2009,
(Friday the 13th of all days), and passed the Presidents Stimulus Bill of $787
billion dollars.
The bill went to the President’s desk for signature on Tuesday the 17th
of February 2009.
The House of Representatives approved the bill by 246 to 183. (with all the Republicans
voting nay).
The Senate voted 60 to 38 with three Republicans voting with the Democrats.
Question: Where on earth is all that money going to?
Accurate information is very difficult to come by but
I have a chart which I found on the website www.recovery.com which
is apparently named, "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" which
includes the following dollar figures.
1) Education and training: $53 billion.
2) Protecting the vulnerable: (Whatever that may means). $81 billion.
3) State and Local Fiscal Relief: $144 billion.
4) Energy: $ 43 billion.
5) Healthcare: $59 billion.
6) Infrastructure and Science: $11 billion.
7) Tax relief: $200 billion.
8) Other: $8 billion.
Is there something wrong with my mathematics?
If all this money is coming out of the Stimulus Bill of $787 Billion, and we
add up the above total it comes to $599 Billion.
Question: What ever happened
to the other $188 Billion?
Perhaps there is a difference between the "Stimulus Bill" and the "American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act", or on the other hand is some of the money
coming out of the September 1988 Bush $700 Billion "Bailout Plan"?
Who knows - it is very confusing - and I still consider that huge amounts of
our tax money will be going to the wrong people, wrong companies, and other wrong
sources.
