An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
One of the costs of going to war with Iraq.
It
has been reported that Saddam Hussein has apparently been
making provisions, if attacked by America and Britain,
to destroy Iraq’s oil wells. This of course would
considerably increase the price of petroleum products,
and cause a precipitous decline in the world economies.
So you people out there with your gas guzzling S.U.V.'s
beware, as you will be saddled with fuel price increases
certainly higher than they were after Gulf War One. In
addition to the rise in the price of gasoline, one must
be aware that petroleum products affect each and every
article of our daily use, mainly due to transportation
costs, and therefore we should also expect a sharp increase
in the cost of living.
Worst case financial scenario: Up until now the people
and the Government of the United States have been worried
about inflation and recession, and the stock market has
fallen sharply. Perhaps we should look beyond the recent
recessions and sincerely hope that if and when war with
Iraq erupts that the recessions will not be followed by
the disaster of a worldwide depression!
The
cost of this predestined war in dollars, and more importantly
in destroyed lives, will have worldwide repercussions
and possible catastrophic results which will certainly
initiate many more acts of terrorism against America and
Americans.
Terrorism began at home!
Secretary of State Powell continues to promote
an association between Al Qaeda and Iraq, even though
British and German Intelligence have said a number of
times that they have no evidence of such an association
and it has never been proven that there was any connection
between Iraq and the 11th of September terrorist actions
against the United States.
One must remember that one of the most outrageous acts
of terrorism in American history was perpetrated by a
homegrown terrorist Timothy McVeigh, who was accused and
found guilty of exploding a truckload of an explosive
mixture of fertilizer and diesel fuel outside the Alfred
P. Murray Federal Building in Oklahoma City on the 19th
of April 1995, killing 168 people and leaving more than
500 people injured.
