Bill Sykes' Newsletter
from America.
(September 2003)
An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE.
The Past.
I will refrain from boring the reader, by only
going back in time to the 11th of September 2001, and
use a phrase coined by President Roosevelt on the 7th
December 1941, (with respect to the Pearl Harbour incident),
"A day that will live in infamy".
The terrorist actions, which destroyed the World Trade
Centre in New York and a large section of the Pentagon
in Washington DC on the eleventh of September 2001 with
the tragic loss of so many lives, both in the air and
on the ground, will remain forever etched in the minds
of the people of this world.
I’m reminded that it was on that very day I commenced
to write these news letters, and had the terrible task
of reporting the acts of terrorism, and the aftermath
of those despicable acts that caused the loss of the lives
of so many innocent people.
I have a dreadful feeling that maybe President George
Bush and his Administration eventually saw this act of
terrorism as an opening for the United States to attack
Iraq in order to secure the Middle East oil fields, even
though it was never proven that Iraq was involved in any
act of terrorism against the United States at that time.
Monday morning quarterbacking:
Question: Could the September 11th terrorist disaster
have been prevented? A questionable maybe - depending
upon who knew what and when - but there again the situation
is clouded with suspicion that certain branches of the
security services did not fully share information that
was available.
Question: Were some people of Saudi Arabian origin involved
in the terrorist action? Certainly - a majority of the
people involved in the terrorist action were of Saudi
Arabian descent.
Question:
Did the United States cover up the possible fringe involvement
of high ranking members of the Saudi Royal family in the
funding of terrorist events by blacking out twenty eight
pages of the Official Incident Report? Perhaps - but we
will probably never know as the censorship smacks of subterfuge
and deception.
The present.
Perhaps I should say as little as possible about
the chaotic, terror-ridden world that we live in today,
except to plead with all parties concerned to stop the
killing and return to a world free from the bloodshed
and anguish that we have created.
I can’t let this moment in time go by without referring
to the loss of freedom of the individual by the Orwellian,
"Big Brother" concept which has brought about
the installation of the ever alert cameras, listening
devices, computer data files which trace our every movement,
(and in many cases trespass into our written and spoken
words), from the cradle to the grave, and further more
the introduction of the insidious "Patriot Act"
which has been described as capable of undermining and
endangering the personal freedom and human rights of the
individual to such an extent that America may become a
future totalitarian state. The "Patriot Act"
will be the subject of a future paragraph in an upcoming
news letter.
Of
course the reason, (or maybe excuse), given by the Governing
bodies of this country is that the Patriot Act and other
methods of control are necessary for National Security
and the protection of the people. Isn’t that what
George Orwell’s fictional book “1984”
was all about, control of the proletariat.
The future.
A frightening thought occurred during my editing
of the September 2003, newsletter. When I looked at the
East Coast power outage and thought of the possible consequences
of a power outage of a magnitude of worldwide proportions
so severe that it would shut down the normal way of life
as we now know it, my imagination ran away with me.
Just
think of the terrible global consequences of a cyberspace
attack, generated by a super computer program virus, that
was able to shut down or overload all utilities, [such
as gas, electricity, water, sewer facilities, nuclear
power generation, road, sea, and air transportation, food
production and distribution, information services - such
as telephone systems, newspaper publications, radio, TV
and even the Internet itself], what a catastrophic occurrence
that would be.
Don’t tell me it can’t be done, as several
of the services mentioned, including the Pentagon and
other major establishments, have been hacked into several
times - there are some very, very, clever young people
out there---perhaps we have aliens in our midst - nothing
is too far fetched in today’s world.
No need for bombs or other weapons of mass destruction
to disable a country—just a complex computer virus
program, which when set in motion would cause a path of
irreversible destruction that would decimate the population
of any country by starvation and disease and leave the
real estate intact. Is this the future we can look forward
to, a world without the means of the humans race to function
and survive?
We,
the human species have become so reliant, (and perhaps,
shall I say addicted), to the readily available internet
for information and communication, and all other functions
of natural, and sometimes unnatural, life on this Earth,
that I would suggest that it would only take a SUPER Internet
virus to bring our world crashing to a grinding halt.
Not really a Doomsday scenario by any means, but never
the less it could be within the powers of the current
spectacularly competent computer whiz kids, (or terrorist
organizations), who have the capability to commit such
an act of extreme belligerent intent, to show the world
how powerful they can be and how powerless we the ordinary
people are to stop them. Of course if we are found to
be powerless, then this of course negates my previous
message in the "Preamble" that we should take
every means at our disposal to stop this insanity.
Lets go one step further and take a look at an "Ever
clear and present danger situation", the real doomsday
scenario.
Forgive me but we are now about to enter the realm of
the supernatural or should I say the unnatural.
The
weapons of choice for future generations will not be what
we the current generation think of as sophisticated weapons
of mass destruction. If this insanity continues, future
generations will have progressed much further in the art
of killing people and will have produced WMD's so much
more sophisticated than we could ever imagine.
These weapons will be aimed at destroying the human animal
and leaving the real estate intact, in order to profit
from the land and buildings that are still liveable. Lebensraum
as it was called in World War Two Europe. But unfortunately
for the conqueror it is reasonable to assume that any
building left standing and intact will be so contaminated
by biological, chemical, nuclear radiation fallout that
they will not be able to be utilized for occupational
purposes for several centuries, so what is to be gained
from these acts of mass killing - Power over the people!
Of course new weapons of mass destruction, which I’m
sure are being produced as we speak, may be of the calibre
of say an infra-red super heated beam type apparatus,
or a hypersonic very high frequency, (HVHF) sound generating
system distributed by orbital satellites which can kill
without leaving a trace. Shall we say a case of on the
spot instant cremation. Maybe more than a little far fetched,
but who knows what is going on in the minds of the scientific
community in this unpredictable world that we live in.
Does anyone remember the BBC Monday night TV program of
many years ago called "Journey into space"?
Perhaps their futuristic ideas are coming back to haunt
me! *
* Hey Guys, I can assure
you that I do not have any inside knowledge of futuristic
weapons of mass destruction and am not in the same fictitious
realm as Dr. Who or Dr, Strangelove. I don’t watch
SCI-FI movies or read SCI-FI books but I do keep tabs
on what is currently happening in the scientific world.
As I said in the preamble, my aim is to make sure that
the readers of this news letter, (whether they wish to
be or not), are fully informed and cognisant of what has
happened in the past, with my "Alice through the
looking glass" view of what may be continuing to
happen in the scientific world of today, where experiments
are still being conducted with the objective of developing
terrible weapons of mass destruction. We the people have
got to stop this madness before it devours the human race.
