Bill Sykes' Newsletter from America.
(September 2003)

An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear or favor)---of the American Scene

Preamble.
I have decided to discuss in this issue, (and maybe continue the discussion in a future issue), a description of Weapons of Mass Destruction, (or as Americans would say the ABC of WMD's - oh how Americans love abbreviations), and I will start by looking at a couple of futuristic WMD's that may have been on the drawing boards and perhaps may have been developed over the past couple of decades.
Justice TextI am sure that there will be certain people who consider the material too complex, too sensitive, too boring, too far fetched, or whatever, and give the old excuse that as there is nothing that they can do about future terrorist acts, why worry about things which they have no control over. I’m afraid that is where they are wrong. If one looks back in history, we find that from the days of terror imposed upon the people by despots and tyrants such as Genghis Khan, Julius Caesar, Mussolini, Hitler, Saddam Hussein (not withstanding), (to name but a few), we find that we, the people, eventually triumphed over evil and brought them to justice.

Question: Would you the reader be interested, and more importantly involved, if you were to consider how the lives of your children, grand children and their children could be affected in a future world of bestial oppression under the constant threat of the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and considering the potential future of generations to come, would you see this as something worth fighting for?
The answer of course, I’m sure would be a resounding YES!
Lunatic TextYou of course know that there are many people on the lunatic fringe who will stop at nothing to fulfil their desires to destroy this world even at the expense of their own lives.

Please forgive me, I do not mean to preach, especially as an individual who is one of little faith, except for a firm belief in the eternal goodness and proverbial kindness of the people of this world in general.
So—if there is a message to be had, it must be: "We the people must be prepared to take up the challenge and learn as much as we can about WMD's and any other possible weaponry of a violent nature, and must be prepared to try and stop this insanity by all means at our disposal".
