An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Observations:
I will not bore
you with the full details of the repetitive negative
material used by both candidates.
I think that it will suffice to say that in my opinion John Kerry was more
confident, self-assured, and certainly had a better command of the subject
matter than his opponent, and he came out of all three debates as the person
with most of the answers, even though many of his "To do list" - if and
when he becomes President - will never get through the current Republican
controlled House and Senate.
On the other hand, President Bush was his usual less
than comfortable self as he stumbled and bumbled through
the first of the so-called debates with what appeared
to be a constant scowl on his face and he kept a close
watch on the time as though he wished with each question
that it would soon be over and done with so that he could
get out of his obvious misery.
On one occasion when the
camera focussed on the back of President Bush’s
jacket it was quite noticeable that there was a definite
protrusion similar to a harness of some kind. Surely
President Bush could not have been wearing a bullet proof
vest under his jacket, could he? Perhaps he was wired
up to some clever electronic device, which fed him the
answers.
If that was possible, I can assure you that the answers
provided certainly didn’t
do Mr. Bush much good in the debate.
To give the President his due, he improved somewhat in the following two debates
but still came out with disappointing performances, as even some of his Republican
supporters reluctantly admitted. Both candidates were prone to not giving full
answers to questions asked by the moderators and waffled on by repeating constantly
their fixed agendas. So what else is new amongst politicians, they all do that.
