Bill Sykes' - In Retrospect
IX.
(November 2007)
Bill Sykes
looks back in retrospect at material which has been published
in previous editions of "View from America",
in an attempt to determine whether the subject matter
written then is still applicable in today’s world.
Future life on this planet:
The humanoid has always, since time immemorial,
killed members of its own species for many reasons and
we are now approaching a stage in our, shall I say, development
where killing has become an accepted method of population
reduction.
Weapons of mass destruction are readily available and have become more and more
advanced to a point that it is inevitable that a futuristic nuclear/biological
weapon will be released one day which will make the number of people killed in
past wars appear to be insignificant.
The release of a super biological weapon will probably cause an unstoppable chain
reaction regenerating virus, which will decimate the population of this earth.
What a terrible thought. No wonder President Bush is recommending the funding
of a program to establish a futuristic moon colony, which will have the capability
to launch space vehicles to the outer planetary systems. Not in our lifetime
of course.
Now we come to the technical part of the experiment.
Currently we are able to land a small exploratory vehicle
successfully on the planet Mars but are unable at this
time to design a vehicle, with the current technology
available, to be able to perform a lift off from Mars.
So are we wasting our technological expertise and our
resources at this time on an experiment to travel to
the far reaches of outer space? The obvious answer
in the long run is an emphatic no!
We are not wasting
our time in expanding our technological knowledge but
we are wasting our precious resources and energy and
are being extremely foolish in depriving our current
generations of a healthy and peaceful environment here
on earth. The old adage, "Charity begins
at home", is still an important factor in todays
world, and it is doubtful as to how far we can go without
completely depleting our current natural resources in
attempts to achieve planetary space platforms, which
is far beyond our current technological capabilities.
Stem cell generation and cloning experimentation are
reaching a stage where humans can be made to order, and
life can be extended by the regeneration of vital organs
- but at the same time the body may be capable of functioning
long after the brain cells have diminished to such a
state that the "Living Dead" may
become a distinct and virtual reality, so why not ship
the excess population to far away planets.
The Universe as we currently know it:
I saw an article the other day, which claimed that the
expansion of the universe is accelerating, not slowing
down as was once envisaged by scientists, so the question
now arises as to whether the, "BIG BANG" theory
has any validity? The expansion is causing the galaxies
to be pushed apart which may give a prediction that the
outward explosive force is causing a runaway Universe
some degree of authenticity.
The mysterious forces controlling the Milky Way galaxy,
(with its dark matter and dark energy being dominant
forces), are raising fundamental questions as to what
the future holds for the humanoid species. It has long
been said that black
holes, of enormous size, located trillions of
light years away from our own galaxy, which have the
enormous power to swallow gigantic stars, (which are
millions of times larger in size than our grain of sand),
if the stars in question orbit too close to the black
hole’s immense internal power source they
are in imminent danger of being sucked into an extremely
powerful force field and completely destroyed. Well that’s
the theory.
Putting things into perspective: Having very little
if any specialized knowledge of the universe, and having
an abundance of gross ignorance about such things, I
find myself encumbered with the problematic statement,
"a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing",
and believe me I have very little knowledge of the tremendous
events that may in the next million years or so cause
the Earth to self destruct and go hurtling off into outer
space and dissolve in a ball of fire.
Entertaining stuff this forecasting what MAY happen millions
of years hence.
Perhaps that would solve all our humanoid problems? That
of course is if we haven’t self-destructed in the
meantime.
As I won’t be around to witness such a catastrophic
event, then I decline to worry about such a happening
and will concentrate on trying to live a healthy, wholesome,
and care free existence in my state of gross ignorance.
Reality check: People have a tendency
to believe that our Earth is immortal, so don’t
get me wrong when I say that I’m quite happy
living in a encapsulated vacuum of mental space, deplorably
void of an informed education which has deprived me of
the intelligence, and the knowledge, to be able to contradict
them.
