David Barr - An American Hero

I first met David at a parachute reunion in San Diego several years ago.

Text BoxDave still sky dives as a member of "The Pieces of Eight" a group of amputees who still prove that they have the courage to show the world that the disabled are still able to perform most tasks whatever they may be.

Dave wrote a book in 1995 entitled "Riding the Edge", an eighty thousand mile motorcycle adventure around the world.
This book is published by "Promotion Publishing" 3368 F. Governor Drive, (Suite 144), San Diego, California 92122.

Dave Barr with leonard CheshireTo assist the disabled, Dave continues to support "The Leonard Cheshire Foundation" and has established "The Dave Barr Foundation" a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging war veterans to achieve freedom and independence.
Any assistance by donation is greatly appreciated.
Donations are applied to the provision of artificial limbs in countries where care is generally less than adequate.
If anyone cares to donate---the address of the foundation is "The Dave Barr Foundation" P.O. Box 8633, Bodfish, CA 93205.
Any donation however large or small will be received with grateful thanks.

During his travels, on Sunday the 16th of June 1991, Dave had the good fortune to be invited to visit the "Barnsley Warriors Motorcycle Club" annual motorcycle show.

He was deeply touched by their kindness and when Rob Murphy, the club chairman presented him with two hundred pounds, the entire profits from their annual motorcycle show, he was overwhelmed.

Dave Barr with the Barnsley Warriors Motorcycle ClubSo if Rob Murphy is still around, you and your club will always be remembered with gratitude for your magnanimous gift towards the betterment of the disabled.

There is much more I could, or should, say about the exploits of this remarkable man and should you get the chance to read Dave's book you will understand the degree of my admiration.

David " I salute you for your courage, both in battle and in civilian life".
Your exploits are remarkable and bear testimony to the efforts that you have made far beyond the call of duty.
