Bill Sykes' Newsletter from America.
(October 2001)
An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
American
Heroes. (A tale of two cities.) !!!
American heroes past and present are now joined by an elite
group of new heroes, the Firemen and Policemen of the cities
of New York and Washington DC, and all the other individual
citizens who gave their lives, or attempted to save the
lives of others, in the terrible disaster that hit these
two cities on the 11th of September 2001.
In addition to past hero's, we have made heroes of our
villains too.
The movie makers have so many times glorified the exploits
of our villains, such as bank robbers, (Bonnie and Clyde),
gangsters such as Al Capone and Bugsy Siegal, cowboy outlaws,
such as Jessie James, Billy the Kid, Doc Holliday, and others
too many to mention.
Why do we have a propensity to portray our villains as heroes.
