An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
The Central Un-intelligence Agency.
The
CIA has in recent weeks come under close scrutiny and criticism
in hearings held by a Congressional Intelligence Committee
as to their lack of dissemination of material which apparently
was in their possession with respect to the September 11th
terrorist attacks on New York and Washington D.C.
It was suggested that the information, which was pertinent
to the terrorist actions, was not acted upon and had not
been shared with other agencies.
Shades
of the apparent uncooperative efforts placed at the doors
of MI5 and MI6 during the cold war, when it was suggested
that information was withheld by the two agencies with respect
to the defections and transfer of intelligence to Russia,
by Philby, Burgess, Maclean, Blunt, and several other high
profile defectors.
Recommended reading on the subject: A book written by
Peter Wright, former assistant Director of MI5 entitled
‘Spy Catcher’.
Then
of course there was the case of a minor espionage matter
when Christine Keeler and Mandy Rice Davis, who were close
and intimate friends of Parliamentarian John Profumo, also
at the same time had intimate relationships with a Russian
Naval Attaché.
Subsequently, John Profumo resigned from Parliament in disgrace.
