Bill Sykes' Newsletter from America.
(October 2004)
An ex-Brit gives his views---(without
fear or favor)---of the American scene.
It must be pretty obvious to the
discerning reader, that as I publish each of these news
letters at the beginning of the month, a majority of
the news items are from the previous month. (In this
case, news and comments are for the month of September
2004).
Preface:
Last month I reported upon the garish way that
the American people like to think that they choose a
President, so this month I will take a look at how the
two candidates currently stand in the ongoing battle
for supremacy in their desire to win the November 2004
Presidential election. Perhaps it would be appropriate
to start with the incumbent Republican President, George
W. Bush, and take a look at what has happened on his
watch - the good, the bad, and sometimes the downright
ugly - and then switch to the Democratic challenger,
John Kerry, and discuss actions that he is currently
promising to take, if and when he becomes President of
these disunited States.
But first things first—I
must comment upon the dreadful inhumane actions by Chechen
terrorists at the school hostage taking blood bath in
the town of Beslan, on the Chechen/Russian border, that
killed over 300 people, students, teachers, parents and
family members, with half of the dead being children.
