An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Inhuman bestiality:
No matter what these people call themselves,
this terrorist action can indeed be classified as depraved
acts of indescribable horrific violence involving the
brutal killing of innocent and defenceless children.
Some amateuristic video film footage, apparently shot
by the terrorists, showed the dreadful aftermath of the
carnage.
I refuse to call the terrorists, rebels, or
freedom fighters, as they are what they are, brutally
savage inhuman killers. Apparently the Russian government
blamed the siege upon international Islamic terrorists
and stated that 10 out of the 35 attackers were Arabs!!!
This action is totally inexcusable, even if the people
of Chechnya consider that they have been deprived by
Russia of the right to become an autonomous nation.
The
Russian security forces must also take a share of the
blame, for what appeared to many people watching the
actions unfold, to be a somewhat inept handling of a
very bizarre and horrific situation.
But what else could the security forces have done in the situation that they
were faced with?
Russian President Vladimir Putin angrily condemned western critics, (who he
blamed for saying that he should negotiate with the Chechen separatists), saying
that the former cold war rivals were unreliable partners in the war on terrorism
and failed to understand that the carnage at a Russian school was the work
of "child killers" equally as ruthless as Osama bin Laden.
President Putin issued a blistering statement in response to some critics of
Russia’s refusal to deal with what they call Chechen terrorists, (obviously
aimed at America), which stated: "Why don’t you meet with Osama
bin Laden, invite him to Brussels or to the White House and ask him what he
wants in order to leave you in peace"?
President Putin went on to say: "You
find it possible to set some limits in your dealing with these bastards,
so why should we enter into talks with these people who
see no wrong in killing our children".
The Russian government appear to be adopting a tougher
stance after the tragedy, when a statement from their
Foreign Ministry demanded the extradition of Akmed Zakayev,
and other Chechen separatist leaders, who have been granted
asylum in Western Europe. President Putin was reported to have indicated
that Russia intends to carry out pre-emptive strikes anywhere in the world
against any terrorists, or their organizations, that are involved in actions
against the people of Russia.
Comment: The reader may consider this to be, "Old
News" - but it
is still very important to world peace when one considers the special reference
to the possible re-emergence of the cold war mentality.
So what is the answer
to the Russian governments terrible predicament, another Lidice, a segregation
wall on the border of Russia with Chechnya, a complete travel ban on all Chechen
nationals into Russian territory, or give the people of Chechnya the autonomy
that they say they want and then cut off all relations and support by initiating,
with the support of the United Nations, total sanctions against the so called
new Republic?
I don’t think that if I had the wisdom of Job, (whom-so-ever
Job was, or claimed to be), I’m afraid that I wouldn’t have a solution
to the ongoing problem. The world as a whole seems determined to self-destruct
in an Armageddon type blaze of horror and destruction. I firmly believe that
every person has the unalienable right to express an opinion on any reasonable
subject, but to follow up with appalling violence is totally unacceptable.
It has been suggested in certain quarters that some American
individuals, (who are still seen to harbour a cold war
mentality), have been playing an active part in supporting
the Chechen rebels in their bid for autonomy in order to
undermine Russian stability by shall we say keeping Russia
focused upon internal problems.
Within a short time of the Chechen incident President Putin announced a reorganization
of the way local government officials are chosen and stated that the current
method of election will be replaced by selection from Moscow. Does this mean
that the Russian political machine has had enough of democracy and is heading
back to a totalitarian regime? No wonder America is concerned.
