An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
Last word:
It has now been nearly two years of non-stop daily, (nay hourly), political
propaganda being distributed on TV and other media sources by both the President
and his challenger. The pretty gullible American population who are easily
swayed one way or the other must have the largest amount of political propaganda
thrust at them on a daily basis than any other nation in this world.
The time has got to come when the political electioneering is controlled to
say a total of six months maximum, (with no more than say two hours per day
of TV political broadcasts), prior to the election, and all soft money, (money
that comes in large donations from individuals and companies who have financial
interests in who is elected), should be banned.
If the president and his challenger had spent much less time in criticizing
each others Vietnam war records and spent a great deal more time in truthfully debating
the seriousness of the current situation at home and abroad, and putting forward
solutions to such important issues as the enormous debt being accrued in the
American economy, health care issues, homeland security, and above all what
they intend to do about the spiralling anarchy and appalling situations in
Iraq and Afghanistan.
The meeting of the un-elected President of Iraq, Dr.
Ayad Allawi, and the un-elected President of the United
States, George W. Bush, brought forth joint enthusiastic
predictions that the Iraq general election will take place as scheduled in
January of 2005.
Now let me add my personal prediction: "It is my opinion that the people
of Iraq, when taking into account the countries current chaotic and anarchic
conditions, do not have a hope in hell of conducting a meaningful election
in January 2005, and I will go further and state that they will not be capable
of conducting democratic style elections for many years to come - if ever!!!"
After Dr. Allawi conceded that the upcoming elections
"May not be perfect", Secretary of Defence Rumsfeld,
who has become a little less self-assured about the Iraqi
situation in recent days, was reported to have stated,
"There is a possibility that elections might only be
held in parts of Iraq due to the chaos and turmoil that
currently exists there". I would suggest that the trial
of Saddam Hussein in 2004 is as remote as general elections
being held in Iraq in January 2005,
