(Presidential Election Special - 2004)
An ex-Brit gives his views - (without
fear or favor) - of the American Scene
Mistakes
Made:
In the early days of the contest, Senator
John Kerry made a prime mistake of leaning too much
on his Vietnam war experiences when the people of this
country, whilst recognizing his bravery and his love
of country, faulted him for not spending more time
discussing the issues and for not attacking the current
incumbent for his acts of belligerence in promoting
a war which should never have been entered into for
the false reasons given, and also for not bring up
in detail the incumbents appalling neglect of social
issues which are badly affecting the people of this
country.
Senator
Kerry and his running mate, John Edwards, failed to bring
up in any great detail the opportunist tactics of the
Halliburton Company and its subsidiaries, which to many
of the legal fraternity were said to be bordering upon
Corporate financially corrupt accounting practices, and
more so the alleged part that may have been played by
Vice President Cheney in favouring the Halliburton Company
in such a manner that they attained multi-billion dollar
non-competitive contracts to support the American Armed
Forces in Iraq.
There were times when Senator John Kerry, and some of his entourage did not
look Presidential, especially when he himself attempted to woo mid-west voters
by appearing with group of a duck hunters. What a confusing statement of character
to be presented to the American public on coast-to-coast TV as a camouflaged,
gun toting duck hunter.
Of course Senator Kerry was not the first choice of many
Democrats. If you care to look back and remember, my initial
first choice was Howard Dean for the role of the Democratic
challenger as he appeared to be a more forceful character
who would really go into the attack mode and do battle
with the current President and his Administration. Dean
appeared to be a good choice until he went into his wild
man act, which did not go down well with many voters, and
he was instantly dismissed as the candidate of choice.
