Late Breaking News.
(Dateline Athens, Sunday 29th August, 2004).
A defrocked Irish priest, wearing a green beret, a red kilt, and green
knee high stockings, bolted out of a crowd of spectators during today’s
Marathon race and attacked the Brazilian runner Vanderlei de Lima forcing him
off the road into the crowd.
This incident occurred about three miles from the finish of the Marathon when
de Lima was way ahead of his two nearest competing rivals for the Gold Medal
award.
This disgraceful and criminal act by an obviously disturbed individual probably
lost the Brazilian runner the chance of winning the race and attaining the Gold
Medal award.
Vanderlei de Lima, who appeared shaken by the attack
but apparently uninjured, continued the race but having
lost momentum he was overtaken by the nearest two competitors.
He came in third to receive the bronze medal and was presented with a special
award for "Sportsmanship".
The deranged priest was arrested—and rightly so.
