An ex-Brit gives his views-(without fear
or favor)---of the American Scene
North of the Border.
A
recent American TV news program questioned the security
of the five-and-a-half thousand mile undefended border with
Canada.
The report stated that intelligence reports have established
that there are at least 50 terrorist groups operating in
Canada, which range in scope from the IRA to Hezbollah,
Hamas, and to quote the report, certainly members of al-Qaida.
It was suggested that efforts to grow the Canadian economy
requires a large immigrant workforce and that Canada maintains
one of the most liberal open immigration policies in the
world and that ninety five percent of foreigners claiming
refugee status are immediately allowed to settle in the
country.
Once allowed into Canada, it was stated that the refugees
have quick access to welfare benefits.
Apparently
Canada has accepted at least 15,000 "refugees"
seeking asylum since the September eleventh incident, and
approximately 2,500 of that number come from countries such
as Algeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, Iraq
and Iran.
I can't believe this, but it was stated that many have no
identification papers, which they purport to having been
destroyed when they left their country of origin.
You can see why the United States, which also does not
have the best immigration policies in the world when they
provide documentation to two of the known bombers of the
World Trade Center, (after they died in the terrorist act
which killed nearly three thousand people), is very nervous
at the prospect of terrorism invading the United States
via this unprotected border.
