I'm
trying to help a good friend make contact with her half sister,
Miss Annette Sykes. Annette was born during WW2 to Miss Freda
Sykes. We know that Annette worked in the airline industry
around 1994, and that at that time, neither of them had married.
Freda was in the Woman's Land Army during the war over toward
Oxford. I know there's a Miss Freda Sykes who attends the
Bethesda Methodist Church Women's Hour who just had a birthday
last month. I was hoping to find out if that was the correct
Freda. There's a Miss Annie Sykes who had also been mentioned
to be around Elland or in the Huddersfield area as
well. Any help or clues would be greatly appreciated. Thank
you. |

I
am not an expat, but searching for long lost relatives.
My paternal grandmother was Janet Moore, nee HOLLINGS.
I would like to make contact with her family in Yorkshire.
In 1901 her brother Flanders Henry HOLLINGS had premises
at 68 Regents Place, Bradford Road. He had a second wife
Hannah, and children Harry 14, Walter 12, John 11, Frank
9, and Arthur 8.
If
anyone can connect me with any of their families I
would be grateful. |

Living
in beautiful Vancouver, I am returning to Hudderfield for
a visit after an absence of some thirty years. It would
be great to meet up with some old school chums from Spring
Grove. Left in 1956 (no emphasis on the word old of course).
If you remember me please contact me (Sherlock) so we can
organize a get together to chew the fat. Oh, is'nt that
a TV show? Dont be shy contact me.

I
am trying to find the descendants of George and Sarah SHEARD
(Sarah nee GODDARD). They were my grandparents and lived,
as did I, in Berry Brow. Uncle Harold was part owner of
Littlewoods Painters and Decorators. There were a number
of uncles and I had cousins called Colin and Leslie who
were uncle Arthur's children and Irene who is now Irene
Hall who was uncle Gordon's. Uncle Alan and uncle Norman
also had children, but I have no names for them. If anyone
has any information I would be pleased to hear from them. |

I would like to know if I might post something on your bulletin
board. I am researching my paternal grandfather's family,
the Broadheads some of whom were born in the Holmfirth/Huddersfield
area.
My grandfather was called Edward, he was born in 1896. He
was sent to live in Canada at the age of 14 - with his mother's brother & family.
Edward's mother was born Caroline Agnes Taylor in 1871, & his father Alfred
William Broadhead in 1868. They married in 1892. Caroline had 8 siblings: George
(1867), Arthur (1869), Amy (1875), Percy (1877), Frederick (1879), Harold (1881),
Harry (1883) & Florina (1884). Amy went to New Zealand in the early part
of the 20th century, Caroline & Alfred going with them. Alfred died there
a few years later. Edward had a brother called Harry. My grandfather lived with
Frederick Taylor in Winnipeg, Frederick having moved there around the same time
I believe as Caroline & Alfred taking the family to NZ. Caroline's parents
were Caroline Witpen & George Taylor. Caroline Taylor's father accidentally
drowned in the 1890's which appears to be suicide.
Alfred's parents were Hannah Rogers & Samuel Broadhead -
they were schoolmasters in the Barnsley area at West Bretton School. Alfred had
4 siblings: Gertrude (1871), Florence (1872), Harry (1881) & Muriel (1882).
Samuel's parents were Joshua Broadhead & Mary Goddard. Samuel had the following
siblings: John (1841), David (1843), Sarah (1844), Joshua (1848), Mary (1850),
Ann (1851), Lydia (1853), Leila (1855), Clara (1859) & Alfred (1862). All
born is Austonley (or possibly Holmfirth). I have marriages so far for (besides
Samuel!) John & David. Joshua's father was a John Broadhead - I think I may
have located his mother, who was a Lydia Butterworth. From the info I was directed
to, I can trace the family back to around 1600. John's parents were a Joshua & Sarah
Broadhead, Joshua's parents were Joshua Broadhead & Ann Haig, Joshua's parents
were Robert Broadhead & Mary Kay.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
