Road-Peace is both a self-help and an campaigning organisation.
We provide practical and emotional help to people bereaved
and injured as a result of a road crash. This support varies
from telephone support by our support line or on a one to
one referral basis, to visiting those in need or accompanying
them at difficult times to inquests, hospitals and so on,
when resources permit. Many later join and benefit from the
therapeutic effects of helping others and contributing towards
our aims. We do not provide qualified psychiatric or psychological
counselling and refer anyone requiring this to other organisations
with the appropriate qualifications. Nor are we able to provide
financial help.
RoadPeace also educates and campaigns for a real reduction
in danger on our roads, through more responsible driving,
a more safely engineered environment and the encouragement
of those forms of transport which cause least danger. We are
pressing for changes to the law to link penalties more closely
to the risks taken by individual drivers, and to bring the
treatment of death and injury on the road onto the same footing
as any other death or injury.
Although the national office is based in London, we have
some groups in local areas, our aim being to provide local
support by local people.
RoadPeace needs more members - the more members we have
the more we can help and the more influential we shall be
in getting a reduction in the carnage on our roads. Although
many of our members have suffered bereavement or injury through
a road crash and are keen to support others in the same position,
we welcome equally anyone who is concerned about reducing
the danger on our roads.
