A FANS VIEW - 1970 to 1972
Oh this was a sad, sad time for Huddersfield
Town and their supporters. When the side were relegated
at the end of the 1971/72 season the cream of the
players were snapped up by other clubs. Visions of
vultures picking at bones.
Frankie Worthington went to Leicester,
Cherry to Leeds, and more besides. And Town went into
freefall down the divisions. From Highbury to Spotland
in 4 miserable years. A proud history down the pan!
But did we stop supporting the blue and
white's. Not on your nellie! We were there, Doncaster,
Shrewsbury, Chester, Hereford, Rochdale, Scunthorpe,
Newport, every hole in the ground between here and
Lands End.
Players came and players went. Such illustrious
names as Spriggs, Hart, MAitland, Belfitt, Dungworth,
Sweeney, Summerill, and Gowling. Jimmy Nick departed
as did Terry Poole, Dick Kryzwicki, Jimmy McGilland
most of the others who had fought to take us into
the top division.
It is best to draw this era to a close
without much comment because the teams were dire and
the memories are bitter.
