August 2001August 27th Town dominated most of the first half and had several chances to open the scoring but it was the Posh who finished the half stronger and the warning signs were there for Town to act on. Unfortunately Peterborough started the second half as they ended the first and scored the opening goal one minute after the restart when Farrell took advantage of a hesitant Town defence to poke the ball home. This galvanized Town into action and in the 53rd minute Andy Booth notched up his first goal of the season to put the Terriers level. A Chris Hay cross was touched on to Booth by Schofield and the Huddersfield-born striker made no mistake with his shot. Then in the 70th minute Chris Beech popped up to head home a Thorrington cross to score what proved to be the decisive goal. Thereafter it was a matter of survival as the Posh looked to salvage something from the game but Town's defence held firm and three points were won.
August 25th Whilst Huddersfield were the better team in the first half they could not make their possession and skill pay and Bury comfortably kept a clean sheet after a stout defensive display. More of the same after the break and it wasn't until late in the game that the Terriers, and one player in particular, bagged the game. In only his second ever appearance for the team young Danny Schofield scored with a superb shot and a lovely chip over the keeper in the 81st and 87th minutes respectively to give Town the points and the glory. Two home victories in a row! Where will this all end?
August 23rd August 21st A goal from a 42-year-old veteran was enough for Town to succumb for the first ever time against their lowly opposition and, until Macari made some tactical substitutions, the score would have stayed that way if the game had lasted for 90 hours instead of 90 minutes. Some may say a night of infamy, some may say that it leaves the Terriers to concentrate on a return to the First Division. All in all the game did not warrant any more than these few lines to sum up Town's performance.
August 18th Reading shaded the first half and were worth
their one goal lead after Forster struck in the 8th minute.
Although Town tried to penetrate the home defence the backs
stuck to their task defiantly. After the break the Terriers were the better team of the two but couldn't make their advantage pay. This lead to frustration for the Town players and the referee ended up with four names in his book.
August 17th August 11th With Bournemouth playing with a 5-man defence it was obvious that this was going to be a match where chances were going to be few and far between. Town started off brightly enough but Bournemouth
played with such caution that the Terriers found it hard to
gain possession. After the break Town gained the upper hand and
some deft work from Booth and Hay gave Irons his chance to
give the Terriers the lead. Irons had another chance a few
minutes later but his shot went wide of the Cherries goal.
Hay also had a chance to increase the lead but his chip over
the advancing Stewart in the Bournemouth goal also cleared
the crossbar. All in all a dour match but this was an important victory for Huddersfield as they started their quest for a quick return to the First Division. Before the start of the game locally-born actor Patrick Stewart was special guest at a ceremony to replace the plaque in the B&Q car park which signifies the exact location of the centre spot of the old Town ground.
