February 2001February 26th February 23rd The game was played in difficult, windy conditions with both sides failing to take control in the first half although Blackpool did hit the woodwork and force at least one good save from Martyn Margetson. It was Blackpool who made the breakthrough at the start of the second half when veteran striker Ian Marshall nodded home Scott Taylor's cross in the 47th minute. Town drew level in the 69th minute when Leon Knight latched on to an Ade Moses cross and hit a looping header over the Seasiders keeper and into the back of the net. Although Blackpool continued to press for the winner, especially through the industry of sub Bullock, Town's defence held firm. Then in the 90th minute Knight again found the back of the net after racing through the Blackpool defence and collecting an accurate pass from Kenny Irons.
February 16th Town, and particularly Martyn Margetson proved equal to the threat of Bobby Zamora in the first half with the Huddersfield keeper making a brilliant double save from the in-form Brighton striker. But it was the home team who made the breakthrough when Junior Lewis, on loan from Leicester City, headed home a Paul Brooker cross in the 54th minute.w Although Town pegged Brighton back with some concerted pressure, and should have scored but Knight fluffed his chance, their depleted strikeforce failed to penetrate the home defence and the game was lost.
February 16th February 12th Town took the lead in
the 5th minute when Danny Schofield
was brought down in the area by the
Blackpool keeper and Clyde Wijnhard
made no mistake from the resultant penalty.
Town continued to press for the winning goal in the second half, Wijnhard guilty of a glaring miss, but to no avail and at the end of normal play the game went into extra time with the golden goal ruling in effect. In the 13th minute of extra time Bullock fired the ball home at the far post to give Blackppol their first shot on target, and, more importantly, the ticket to the cup final.
February 9th Tranmere were the better of
the two sides on the day and took the lead
in the 23rd minute through old warhorse
Paul Rideout, who volleyed home a Sean Flynn
cross. But it was a stroke of good
fortune that saw Town equalise in the 78th
minute when a Craig Armstrong shot took
a wicked deflection to wrong-foot the Rovers
keeper.
February5th Swindon adapted to the dreadful
conditions in the first half and could have
taken the lead in the third minute through Invincible
but for a great save from Margetson. In the second half it was Town
who posed the greater threat and in the 54th
minute Hay scrambled the ball home after Schofield
chested the ball into his path after a Jenkins
cross. This leaves Town unbeaten in six matches and sees them climb to fifth in the table and also in a play-off position.
February 2nd Town had to reorganise after losing two key defenders through injury and illness and played a defensive match, depending on Knight for their attacking breaks. Very few chances came either teams way in the forst half although Rovers did manage to rattle the woodwork. Aftert the break the home side piled on the pressure but Town's defence held firm until Peacocks goal. It was deep into injury time when Knight latched on to an Irons corner and smashed the ball high into the Bristol goal.
