March 2001

April 1st
Nationwide League - Division Two
Huddersfield Town 0 - 0 Oldham Athletic
Town look as if they are going to have to go into the playoffs without leading scorer Leon Knight after the diminutive striker was sent off for violent conduct in only the 4th minute of the local derby at the McAlpine Stadium.
Knight appeared to elbow Scott McNiven in the head in an off-the-ball incident and left the referee with no alternative other than to send him off for an early bath.

Meanwhile Town defended stoutly for the rest of the game and managed to hold out for a draw despite their inferiority in numbers. Indeed Delroy Facey had chances to score but fired two shots wide and then hit the woodwork with a header.

Oldham had their chances too but once again the woodwork came to the rescue plus Martyn Margetson had another good game in the Terriers goal.

Wrexham 1 - 1 Huddersfield Town
Town continues their push for the play-offs witha battling draw against struggling Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground.

In a goalless first half Town managed to hit the bar courtesy of Leon Knight and Schofield fired wide whilst at the other end Martyn Margetson produced some great saves to keep Wrexham at bay, notably thwarting Trundle and Phillips .

The second half saw Margetson produce another string of fine saves but it was Town who took the lead as Delroy Facey scored his first goal of the season when he headed home from close range.

Unfortunately Town's lead lasted no more than 3 minutes as Faulconbridge headed home a Ferguson corner to give Wrexham a share of the points.

First to sign was 21-year-old midfielder Damien Delaney, a midfielder who has joined the Terriers for the rest of the season from Leicester City.
Second to sign was 19-year-old Jerel Ifil, a defender from Watford. Once again he has joined Town for the rest of the season.

March 23rd

Huddersfield Town 2 - 0 Northampton
Two more goals for prolific striker Leon Knight saw Huddersfield comfortably see off lowly Northampton.

Knight scored his first goal in the 27th minute when he latched on to a Danny Schofield pass and put the ball past Knight in the Northampton goal.
5 minutes later the diminutive striker doubled his tally, the supplier of the telling pass being John Thorrington this time.

Although Town were a little shaky for the first 20 minutes of the game they improved after Knight notched up his first goal and ended up being worthy victors on the day.

March 16th
Nationwide League - Division Two
Cambridge 0 - 1 Huddersfield Town
Town made heavy weather of this game against the league's bottom club but came away with the points thanks to on-loan striker Leon Knight scoring his seventh goal in seven games.

Both teams were fairly ineffective in the first half although Cambridge took advantage of their familiriarity with their own ground to put on a performance that belied their position in the table.

Town finally got the breakthrough in the 64th minute when Leon Knight headed home a Clyde Wijnhard cross.

Then, in the final minute, Cambridge wawarded a penalty after Gareth Evans pushed Wanless in the area but Ian Ashbee's penalty rolled wide of Margetsons upright.

March 9th
Nationwide League - Division Two
Huddersfield Town 2 - 0 Swindon Town
This was something of an easy win for the Terriers as they scored in both halves and completed the double over the Wiltshire team.

The first goal in the 21st minute was something of a howler as Griemink in the Swindon goal somehow contrived to fumble the ball and let it roll into his own net after a 25-yard shot from Kenny Irons.

After the break Town continued the workmanlike performance and in the 52nd minute Leon Knight latched on to a Danny Schofield cross and headed the ball into the Swindon goal.

With Swindon rarely troubling the home defence this was a good performance from the Terriers and the result sees them move back into the play-off places.

Town Team Margetson, Jenkins, Clarke, Evans, Gray (Moses 80), Thorrington (Heary 88), Schofield, Holland, Irons, Facey, Knight (Wijnhard 88)

Town took a two goal lead in the first half through Leon Knight and a rare goal from Kevin Gray, but allowed Wycombe to get back into the game in the second half.

However a late brace of goals from Knight (his fifth goal in five games)and Kenny Irons saw the Terriers come away with all three points, further cementing their position in the play-off places.

Nationwide League - Division Two
Chesterfield 1 - 1 Huddersfield Town
The play-off aspirations of Town were kept alive by a late goal form Leon Knight as Town came away with a point from Saltergate.

Chesterfield were the better team on the night with keeper Marty Margetson producing some good saves to keep the Spireites at bay but he was finally beaten in the 42nd minute by a clever lob from Martyn Booty.

It looked as though all three points were going to the home team until Knight popped up in the 83rd minute with a tremendous 20-yard shot that gave Town a share of the points.

Huddersfield Town 0 - 0 Wigan Athletic
This battle of the promotion contenders was won by the defenders as both sides failed to make any headway in this entertaining game.

Wigan had the best chance to take all three points through De Zeeuw inj the 52nd minute but the visiting skipper's header was brilliantly saved by Martyn Margetson.
Apart from this there were very few chances at either end although Schofield for the Terriers and Liddell for Wigan were denied by game-saving tackles.
