October 2001October 30th Enough said.
October 27th Town suffered a scare in the first half when
Wrexham took the lead through Chalk, who converted a Ferguson
free kick in the 25th minute. Three minutes into the second half and Town took the lead through Chris Holland. It was then the turn of Knight to show why he is on Chelsea's books. His first on 64 minutes was a gem as he latched on to Nat Clarke's pass, raced into the Wrexham box and stroked the ball home. " Minutes later Town were celebrating again
when Knight planted a header home at the near post after he
connected with a John Thorrington cross. A masterful performance from Town as the ended new Wrexham manager's Denis Smith's unbeaten run. With the new consortium close to taking over control at Huddersfield the fans are now wondering if Huddersfield Town are now on the ascendancy after some decidedly ropey performances.
October 24th It has also been revealed that Lutz Pfannenstiel,
a German goalkeeper has been offered a trial with the club. October 23rd Booth started the first half by hitting the bar, an omen of things to come for the home defence. With Holland running midfield and the rest of the Town side not content just to play bit parts, this was a performance that deserved more than the 3 goals they eventually came away with. Booth's first came in the 30th minute when he
fired home, via the post, to put the Terriers one goal ahead.
Northampton made a couple of substitutions to try to break the Terriers stranglehold but to no avail as Booth notched up his hat-trick in the 70th minute with a skilfully measured header from a Heary free kick. How this team could lose last Saturday at Tranmere and then produce such a masterful performance must remain as much of a frustration for manager Lou Macari as it is for the Town faithful.
October 23rd October 22nd October 20th The first half was fairly dull and uninspiring from the spectators point of view. Both teams found opportunities to score hard to come by and were perhaps a little grateful when the half-time whistle came. After the break the game took on a whole new complexion after Nick Henry put Rover into the lead in the 50th minute, latching on to a Koumas cross and banging the ball into the net from close range. This served to spur the Terriers into action and
Andy Booth had two golden opportunities to level the scores
with his head but on both occasions he was wide of the mark. If Town are to make a serious attempt to climb out of this division these are the types of games they need to win, and with Booth being off-form promotion hopes could soon be dashed.
October 16th In a first half almost totally dominated by the home side Huddersfield were guilty of wasting the guilt-edged chances they created against a gritty Halifax defence that included Town old boy, Graham Mitchell. Huddersfield's two best efforts fell to Chris Holland, who saw his shot rebound off the woodwork in the 5th minute, and Andy Booth, who squandered a great chance by contriving to miss the goal from point blank range in the 20th minute. Kerrigan had Halifax's best chance but was foiled by a fine save from Martyn Margetson. The only thing worth mentioning about all of the second half and extra time (where the 'golden goal' rule was in force) was a shot from Gary Jones in the 84th minute which bounced off Margetson's post. And so it was down to penalties and the Town players held their nerve whereas Halifax missed two of theirs to give Town a ticket through to round two of the cup.
October 13th Brighton pressed the Town goal throughout the first half and should have gone in at half-time with a greater lead than the one goal, scored by prolific striker Bobby Zamora. Zamora blasted the ball past Margetson in the 35th
minute, scoring brilliantly from an acute angle. In the second half both sides had chances to add to the scoreline before Brighton scored their second in the 63rd minute when Gary Hart hit a low shot from the edge of the area past the despairing dive of the Terriers keeper. Although Town managed to pull a goal back in the 74th minute from a Kenny Irons free kick, Town never looked like they would get anything from this game and, in this test of their promotional acumen, found Brighton too hot to handle.
October 7th Although Huddersfield held the advantage at the
start of the game it was Rangers who took the lead when Thomson
swivelled and shot past Margetson in the 13th minute. Stung into action Town retaliated in the 33rd minute when a Kenny Irons free kick was headed into the path of Chris Hay by Andy Booth. Hay somehow scrambled the ball into the Rangers net. Town had further chances but were denied by Chris Day in the QPR goal, Andy Booth having the best chance brilliantly saved at the end of the half. After the break QPR took the lead again in the 56th
minute when Rose blasted home a 30-yard shot after the Terriers
defence failed to clear the ball cleanly. Town gave their best in an attempt to gain something
from the game, Simon Baldry rattling the Rangers bar. And their
tenacity paid off in injury time when a Thorrington cross was
deflected by Ben-Askar into his own net.
