Michael Jackson-WembleyThe album reviews contained within this music section are generally of the 1970's but there may be more recent albums made by bands that emerged in that era but have continued on through the 80's, 90,s and later.
There are also reviews of albums by emerging musicians although these are few and far between as this seems to be the age of cover music and repetition. Sad but true? You tell me....

CamelI also decided to take a trip into the past and ordered a couple of albums from Amazon that I originally owned on vinyl. First up was Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Welcome To The Pleasure Dome. A superb album that they could never match. Two Tribes, Relax and Power of Love are only three of the outstanding tracks.
Robin TrowerSecond up was Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs. Now not many people know this but Robin played with Procol Harum when they made A Whiter Shade of Pale in the 60's. He eventually went solo and moved to America where he sold a lot of records. He was once described as the white Jimi Hendrix. Good Santana-Manchestersongs, a powerful vocalist (Jim Dewar - now deceased) and Trower's great guitar work make the albums a delight to the ears. Don't take my word for it - listen for yourselves!

The reviews are generally just brief personal summaries and if anyone would like an in-depth analysis just drop a line to; pete@huddersfield1.co.uk

On with the reviews;

The Beatles - One

The Beatles - One
Every single from this great band on one CD.That's 27 singles from Love Me Do to The Long & Winding Road via such classics as Eleonor Rigby and Hey Jude. If you haven't got the individual albums this has to be an addition to your collection.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasuredome
An excellent album from the Liverpool band who set records for having consecutive number one's (contained on this disc) whilst being banned from radio stations for the risque lyrics.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood

Al Stewart - Year of the Cat

Al Stewart - Year of the Cat
A masterpiece of an album with quality tracks from start to finish. Stewart has a wonderful knack of writing meaningful lyrics to accompany his melodic tunes. Definitely one to own!

Remember Cat Stevens - The Ultimate Collection
What was said for Al Stewart (above) also goes for Cat Stevens aka Yussuf Islam. Stevens recorded some of his best material in the 70's including Father & Son, First Cut Is The Deepest, Here Comes My Baby, Wild World, etc. Another essential purchase!

Cat Stevens - The Ultimate Collection

Gary Moore

Gary Moore -
Blues & Ballads

Whilst not strictly a 1970's album this disc is too good to leave out and captures the spirit of the era. Former Thin Lizzy guitarist Moore sure knows how to play that guitar!

Hawkwind - Live & Rare
What can I say about Hawkwind? Space music, sci fi music (empowered in their collaboration with sci-fi writer Michael Moorcock), synthesiser rock. There are a lot of budget priced albums by Hawkwind. Go out and get one!

Hawkwind - Live and Rare

Hawkwind - The Collector Series

Hawkwind -
The Collector Series

Another budget album from the space rockers and every track is a gem. Given the price of theses CD's it really is a steal.

Hawkwind -
Master of the Universe

Another budget Hawkwind compilation that includes a live version of Silver Machine. One for Hawkwind fans.

Hawkwind - Master of the Universe

Hawkwind - In Search Of Space

Hawkwind -
In Search Of Space

Released in 1971 this album established Hawkwind as the leading proponents of "Space Rock" The remastered CD contains a number of bonus tracks including the original single recording of Silver Machine.

Hawkwind -
Doremi Fasol Latido

A follow-up to the album above this 1972 offering served to reaffirm the quality of the band. The track Brainstorm is an 11.00 minute trip through the light fantastic. One of the bonus tracks on the CD is called Ejection which, if my memory serves me right, was actually contained on a solo Robert Calvert album.

Hawkwind - Doremi Farso Latido

Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced

Jimi Hendrix -
Are You Experienced

A must-have album from the left-handed guitar god. Worth buying for Hey Joe and Purple Haze but the whole CD is magnificent!

The Jam -
Greatest Hits

A mod band that bucked the trend of punk rock towards the end of the 70's. Great songs by Paul Weller and some youth anthems within the 19 tracks
